Driver leaves scene of accident after head-on crash on U.S. 127 injures two

A pregnant woman and her 2-year-old daughter were seriously injured in a head-on collision Wednesday night.

Officials from the Jackson County Sheriff’s office say that on Oct. 18 at 7:07 p.m. deputies were dispatched to the head-on traffic crash on U.S. 127 South near White Road in Liberty Township. One driver had lost control, crossed the centerline and struck a vehicle travelling in the opposing direction. The driver who lost control of his vehicle ran from the scene on foot.

Deputies determined that a 26-year-old man from Cement City was traveling south on U.S. 127 in a Ford Explorer. The Explorer lost control traveled into the west ditch, the driver overcorrected crossed back across the centerline and struck a northbound vehicle head on.

The northbound vehicle, a Chevrolet Trailblazer was driven by a 29-year-old Cement City woman who is pregnant. The Trailblazer also contained the driver’s two-year-old female daughter. Both were taken by ambulance to Henry Ford Allegiance Hospital, both suffered serious injuries.

The 26-year-old man left the scene on foot and was arrested several minutes later by deputies and state police troopers walking along a nearby road. His name is being withheld pending arraignment. The man possessed a foreign driver’s license. He was lodged at the county jail. Charges are being requested for operating while impaired causing serious injuries and leaving the scene of an accident.

The investigation has been forwarded to Prosecutor Jerry Jarzynka’s office for a charging decision.

Michigan State Police, Liberty Township Fire and Jackson Community Ambulance assisted the Sheriff’s Office on this crash.

    so scary you never no when your life can be taken from you .Glad they caught him, and hoping the mother and child will be ok
