Arts in the Park

The next Arts in the Park will host Act III Friday, July 21 at 7 p.m. at Swain Memorial Park in the Village of Brooklyn. Arts in the Park is held at Swain Memorial Park, behind Guthrie Ford. Bring a friend, your family and a comfy lawn chair and enjoy the concert.


Cascade summer concerts

The Cascades Family Night concert will be held Wednesday, July 26, from 7 to 11 p.m. and will feature JD Boone and FLYTE.

The Cascades Rotary Bandshell will hold its next concert Saturday, July 29, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and will feature singer songwriter Gary Niemenski.

The Cascades Falls Park is located at 1401 S. Brown St., Jackson.

Jammin’ in Jackson summer concert

The Jammin’ in Jackson summer concert series will continue Friday, July 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the CP Federal City Square Stage, 212 W. Michigan Ave., Jackson. Performing for this concert will be Blackstone Steel. Concessions, provided by Michigan Theatre, will also be available for purchase.


JSO presents ‘Movies and Marches’ at the Riverwalk Amphitheatre

The Michigan Theatre presents .  . .

The Brooklyn and Jackson Kiwanis Clubs are sponsoring the Michigan Theatre Summer Kids Film Series. The next scheduled film is Lego Batman, which runs July 25-27. The doors open at 9:30 a.m. and the film is shown at 10 a.m., and at 1:30 p.m. and the film is shown at 2 p.m.

CAA offers homebuyer education class

The Community Action Agency is offering a Homebuyer Education workshop for those interested in pursuing homeownership. The goal of the class is to provide an opportunity to learn more about the home buying process.

The CAA Jackson offices will be offering a free homebuyer education class Saturday, July 22, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The class will be held at Community Action Agency at 1214 Greenwood, Jackson.  Registration is required as seating is limited.

The information covered is valuable for those deciding if purchasing a home is an option. Topics covered include: Is Buying a House Right for Me?,Benefits of Homeownership, How Much can I Afford?, What Credit Score do I Need?, Shopping for a Lender & Realtor, What are the Closing Costs?, How to Protect My Investment.

Learn about delicious dishes, music and sprouts at JDL

The Jackson District Library Carnegie Branch is hosting Delicious Dishes Friday, July 21, from 3 to 4 p.m. Participants will test their culinary skills by making candy sushi, practice molecular gastronomy and create a chocolate bowl for a tasty ice cream sundae. This program is intended for ages 12-16. For more information or to make a reservation, call 788-4087. The Carnegie Branch is located at 244 W. Michigan Ave., Jackson.

Music and Movement for Wee Ones will be held at the Summit Branch Tuesday, July 25 at 11 a.m. This program is intended for ages 5 and under and will introduce the child to the joys of music and movement. The Summit Branch is located at 104 W. Bird St., Jackson for more information or to make a reservation, call 783-4030.

Sprout House will be held at the Brooklyn Branch Thursday, July 20 at 11 a.m. This program is intended for ages 6-10. Family activities at the Lenawee District Library

The Lenawee District Library Main Branch will hold Family Game Night Thursday, July 20, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Participants can bring their own board game to share with others.

Individuals will learn to make Spaghetti Structures Friday, July 21, from 11 a.m. to noon. This program is geared for students in grades 1-6.

LDL’s Book Sale will be held Saturday, July 22, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Individuals will be able to find books, audio, movies and more.

LDL Book Talk will be held Tuesday, July 25, from 1 to 2 p.m. This month’s book selection is “Room” by Emma Donoghue.

LDL’s Genealogy Group will meet Tuesday, July 25, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Individuals will have the opportunity to research their family history each month with other members.
