Arts in the Park
The next Arts in the Park will host the Village Square Acoustics Friday, Aug. 18 at 7 p.m. at Swain Memorial Park in the Village of Brooklyn. Arts in the Park is held at Swain Memorial Park, behind Guthrie Ford. Bring a friend, your family and a comfortable lawn chair and enjoy the concert.
August midtown art walk scheduled
The Midtown Jackson Art Walk is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 18, from 4 to 8 p.m. This event will include drawings to win art, pottery, sculpture, jewelry, paintings, photography, music, metal and food trucks. For more information, call 788-4355
LEGO building, eclipse viewing party and terrarium building at JDL
The Jackson District Library Carnegie Branch is hosting LEGO Brick Building Saturday, Aug. 19, from 2 to 4 p.m. This program is intended for ages 6-12.
An Eclips-Tastic Viewing Party is being held Monday, Aug. 21, from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Individuals will have their own pair of viewing glasses. All ages welcome.

The Summit Branch is hosting Succulent Terrarium building Monday, Aug. 21 at 5 p.m. Reservations are required and supplies will be provided. This program is intended for teens and adults.

Stuff the bus with needed school supplies
The Exponent, Columbia Schools and the Brooklyn Kiwanis Club is once again sponsoring the Stuff the Bus event to be held the week of Aug. 14. A school bus will be located in front of the Exponent to collect school supplies for children in need in our community. Items needed are crayons, pencils, pens, paper, notebooks, pencil cases, backpacks, markers, rulers, scissors and folders to name a few items. The Exponent is located at 160 S. Main St., Brooklyn.
GREAT’s August paddle on Michigan Center Chain of Lakes
Residents are invited to join the Grand River Environmental Action Team for a paddle on the Michigan Center Chain of Lakes Sunday, Aug. 20, at noon. Participants can meet at 11 a.m. for vehicle transfer at the DNR Boat Launch, located at Napoleon Road to Edgewater Drive, south to Washington Drive and turn right, the boat launch will be on the right on Center Lake. The group will paddle to Little Wolf Lake County Park (Wolf Lake Road). This will be a three to four-hour event and it is 5.7 mile trip paddling on lakes. Remember to dress for the weather and to bring a change of clothing in a waterproof bag.
To reserve a canoe or kayak, at no charge, and to check trip status due to weather, call 517-416-4234 or check www.great-mi.org. Click on the calendar button on GREAT’s website for trip attributes, maps, and put-in and take-out sites. A cancelled trip will be rescheduled for the following Sunday.
