New cat habitat opens at Jackson Animal Shelter May 19
An open house is scheduled for Saturday, May 19 to show off a new cat habitat at the Jackson County Animal Shelter at 3370 Spring Arbor Road.
The addition to the county-owned shelter was financed by a not-for-profit group called Friends of the Animals for the Jackson Area. Money was provided in a gift from the late Mary Flannery.
Shelter cats have traditionally been confined in cages. Cages will be replaced by so-called “cat condos,” where felines can roam in what is described as a living-room-like setting.
Condos are intended to reduce stress for shelter cats, which can make them healthier and more likely to be adopted.
The open house will be Saturday from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Everyone is invited.
