Whether pointing north, south, east or west, Tom Macomber’s hat is one patriotic piece of work. “I made it myself,” said Macomber, when asked where one could acquire such a fancy ornament for one’s head. It seems that the hat used to be stiff, but his grandchildren played with it, got it wet and it went a little soft. Macomber doesn’t care. He still loves both the hat and grandchildren. He and his wife, Pat, were recently at Arts in the Park, where he was sporting the rose and flag-clad straw hat.
