Chicks in the Sticks helping community in a variety of ways
Chicks in the Sticks is a loosely organized group of, well, chicks, who met at the Columbia Community Fitness Center and are dedicated to helping out the community in a variety of ways while having fun.
Their most recent outreach included making Easter baskets for the Brooklyn Food Pantry. The baskets include candy, stuffed animals, toys and other items designed to brighten a child’s day on Easter morning. The group also stuffs backpacks with school items for the pantry, assists with the Mott’s Children’s baby showers, the Exponent Veteran’s cookie tray project and more.
Oh, yes, and they manage to find time to exercise as well. Cyndi Pease notes that Debbie Peltier is sort of “The Boss Chick” and members donate a little cash annually to help with purchases, such as backpacks. Then they work throughout the year gathering items to help those who can use a little help.
But the whole thing wouldn’t happen without the fitness center.
“We all met there, and it is a great asset to the community,” said Pease. The Columbia Community Fitness Center is located at 11775 Hewitt Road and offers a variety of exercise options, from a weight room to a spinning classes to open gym time.
