Chet Silkworth, right, retired as postmaster of the Brooklyn Post Office in 1979. Silkworth was a familiar face around town for years. He had served as postmaster since Dec. 31, 1951. A lifelong resident, Silkworth graduated from Brooklyn High School in 1938, and served four years in the Army before hooking up with the post office. “It was easier getting in the post office than it is getting out,” he joked.

Nat Gross, a Columbia Central graduate, went on to play football for the Toledo Rockets in 1979. Gross, who played linebacker, also excelled in wrestling. He is shown with Rocket coach Chuck Stobart.
